Signal | 2016 | When The Past & Present Collide

After going on a hiatus with K Dramas, only to be consuming too many crime dramas in a row. I’d like to first review the best of them all – Signal.

SYNOPSIS

Signal Korean Drama.jpg

Fifteen years ago, a female child was kidnapped on the way from school. At that time, Park Hae Yeong, who was an elementary school student, witnessed the girl being taken away. A few days later, the girl was found dead, and detectives couldn’t find the culprit. As time went by, Hae Yeong started distrusting the police. Fifteen years later, Hae Yeong is now a police officer and criminal profiler. One day, he finds a walkie-talkie that allows him to get in contact with Detective Lee Jae Han who is in the past. Police officers Hae Yeong, Jae Han and Cha So Hyun then set out on a journey to solve cold cases.

THOUGHTS

Generation Why Pod on Twitter: "It's getting ridiculous. #Memes #truecrime #IDaddict… "

Even though I have only just realized I love the crime/ thriller genre with a super natural element in particular. I have watched a ton of TV Shows that revolve around this genre. I could potentially get away with murder, super power or not. 😛

TIME TRAVEL TROPE X LOVE STORIES

I am a sucker for love stories that involve time travel and parallel worlds. Basically, anything that involves the star crossed lovers trope. I somehow can’t get enough of twisted fate and the hopeless romantics that feature in these tropes.

Signal. A beautiful Korean crime drama series. Worth the watch! Every scene has you hooked and I guarantee they'll make… | Korean drama quotes, Kdrama, Drama movies

I love the female detective that still searches for her missing lover in every unidentified dead body. I love how K Drama love stories give me all the feels without any explicit scenes to support it

THE ABILITY TO CHANGE THE FUTURE

More Favorite Kdrama Quotes ✨ | K-Drama Amino

The premise of being able to change the past is amazing. However, there is this specific message this show delivers of working on your present and learning from your past could change the future drastically. Another part I loved is the collateral and dominoes effect of damage that affects the future.

CRIME!

Having some supernatural element paired with solving crimes is quite common in K dramas and every single time it is some new element that they highlight. This one, we have a Detective from the present and a detective from the past communicate via walkie-talkie to solve a long-time unsolved case. Like any other Crime K- Drama show I have watched, this too covered interesting crime cases. I loved how the cases were inspired from true events.

The Cantabile Life

I love it how both detectives looked out for each other. Precisely the past detective. This series is such a wholesome experience.

RATING : 4.5/5.0

Overall, it was engaging and kept getting interesting every episode. The time travel aspect is unlike anything I’ve seen before. Also, each have their own emotional baggage that gives a lot more depth to each characters. Not to mention, the gruesome crime case and the nail biting investigation that goes on.
