It’s been ages I have reviewed a movie on here. I barely watched any movies though, and have been under the water with work and life in general. But, I am finally back on track with my blogging schedule and should do more on here.. *fingers crossed*
SYNOPSIS
Tormented with his ‘under-privileged’ societal status, a father capitalizes on his son’s newfound fame as a boy-genius. Little does he realize that the secret he harbors will destroy the very thing he loves the most.
THOUGHTS
THE CASTE SYSTEM
In this story, the father Nawaz Uddin quickly realizes the caste discrimination that takes place towards Dalits. He is a street smart person and aspires to grow out of his poverty and bad situation. We also see how politicians conveniently take advantage of being their supporters and have their own ulterior motives towards it.
Another caste related scene I really liked is during his kid’s school admission, and society unknowingly can be offensive in such situations because of their ignorance and lack of empathy.
Absolutely how to manages to show the perspective of someone that the world looks down on as a community for not a fault of his own in the first place.
THE GENERATIONAL DEBT
I like to believe it’s an Indian thing where the parent emotionally and mentally burdens the kid into becoming what they themselves couldn’t achieve in life, it’s a debt the following generation has to pay in order to be better. The parents have some extra ordinary expectations from the kid and ignore the mental well being of the kid altogether.
This movie depicts that part of society extremely well.
CHILD PRODIGY
In this movie, the supposedly child prodigy is just a façade played by the child and the father in hopes of being respected and gaining fame. You also see how easy it is for the kid to be manipulated in choosing the wrong way of doing things.

The pressure the father puts on his kid for him to be a termed as genius is disturbing on so many levels. In the end, I was kind of happy on how things ended and hope it lets parents understand the importance of nurturing a kid instead of pressurizing them for one’s own idea of benefit and greed.

Overall, I love the story and Nawazuddin’s acting.. It is layered and has a lot of themes that it tries to cover be it caste discrimination, parents passing on their unaccomplished dreams on to their children or just the general corruption and politic strategies. Worth a watch!
