I picked up this book for the OWLS Magical Readathon I participated in last month as I thought it fitted the Muggle Studies Subject perfectly. Uhm. Well!
Let’s just start with saying this is going to be an unpopular opinion. So if you love this book, I advise you read my rant below at your own risk.
SYNOPSIS
Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases — a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.
It doesn’t help that Stella has Asperger’s and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice — with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan — from foreplay to more-than-missionary position…
Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but to crave all the other things he’s making her feel. Soon, their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic…
THOUGHTS
THE ” ROMANCE”
I was told this was supposed to be a cute adult romance novel. Oh well.
If romance meant fifty pages of sex talk, I am not sure if I am going to pick this genre anymore. An erotic writing with a romance plot. A young rich woman wants to be trained and taught some skills in bed by an escort. Of course she falls in love otherwise this would be in the Erotic Genre. 🙂
I personally felt it was a bit unnecessary. Yes, we have to show how they met and blah blah and her insecurity of competing with other random woman. I get it. But, why not make the encounters more fluffy where she sees him without the lusty lenses? And, no drunk night club scenes is not what I mean. Not every “adult” romance begins with a drunken night. So this felt like a stereotypes version of falling in love.
THE ADULTS
So, this is categorized as an adult book. for it’s mature content. My bad, I expected the characters to act like adult too. 🙂 . We have characters having Daddy Issues, unnecessary conflicts, fist fights.
I found Stella to be really annoying. I get it why she would have self esteem issues in the first place. But, some of her reactions were really dumb and annoying. And, I wonder if a “smart” woman would behave like she does. I kind of don’t like characters that act so annoyingly dependable on their love interest.
WHERE IS THE GEEKY ASPECT
She is supposed to be a geek. The Title is – “The Kiss Quotient” Yes, I had that Aha moment when the title made sense. But that’s it. That is all the geeky stuff to the book. Also, the stereotype that geeks earn a lot more money and are super rich.
MICHAEL
The only reason I did not DNF this book was Michael and his Vietnamese Heritage. I loved his scenes with his sisters and the mother. The only reason this has two stars.
Although, he too had daddy issues.

Overall, this book was highly disappointing and I do not understand the hype around this. Definitely not continuing with the series. Although, I really believe I have picked up the book to judge the genre. :P. Although, If you want some trashy romance novel this one would be it. It definitely had a few good chapters that makes me feel it would be an average read if the stereotypes were ignored.
