My Top Ten Young Adult Books

I turned 25 years old last month, and I am officially a young adult. So I am happy to like a genre within my age group 😛 I really thing I should appreciate that fact since it will be the only time I will say this 😛
I predict to be a forever Young Adult fan, and I am honestly not ashamed.

Yes, I will make sure I read Classics, Non-fiction and Literary Fiction over the years, to be accepted by the elite readers around the world. However,Young Adult will always remain my go to genre .

So without further ado lets begin my Top Ten Young Adult books I have read :

• Wonder by R. J. Palacio
  

  I absolutely loved this book. Teaches an important lesson of being kinder than necessary and not judging people based on how they look. One of those rare books that change your perspective on otherwise unaddressed emotions. I never wanted this book to end. The main character is a ten year old boy with facial deformity. This book is wonderful and one of my favorite books. I literally cried.
  
  

• Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard by Rick Riordan

   

  Can we all just agree how Magnus is such a good friend? He looks out for all his friends and is such a softy. The scene where Hearthstone’s Dad is like a monster to his son, I appreciated that Magnus let him fight the battle himself, but was still there for him.  He let Hearth take the decision, even though Hearth was going to get hurt he let him do what he wants.  In the big picture, you cannot always force your friends to make the right decision. Sometimes you gotta let them do the dumb shit they do, and be close enough to catch them when they fall.. Because.. Hey! That’s what friends are for..
  

• Turtles all the way Down  by John Green

  I can’t explain enough how well has anxiety been described in this book. Aza is always worrying about things and  it doesn’t do her any good.

  “Imagine you’re trying to find someone, or even you’re trying to find yourself, but you have no senses, no way to know where the walls are which way is forward or backward, what is water and what is air. You’re senseless and shapeless—you feel like you can only describe what you are by identifying what you’re not, and you’re floating around in a body with no control. You don’t get to decide who you like or where you live or when you eat or what you fear. You’re just stuck in there, totally alone, in this darkness. That’s scary.”

  

• Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
  

  This book has so much diversity with Frances being bisexual, Daniel and Cary being gay and Aled being either asexual or demisexual.
  Apart from that this story also focuses on academic pressure and internet hate.I hated Carol for such bad parenting and animal abuse, i also loved how the author gives a new light to family problems. I love how the characters are so realistic.
  I wasn’t like awe struck with this book even though i must say this book did get me out f my reading slump and is exceptionally entertaining and something to reflect upon.
  

• The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton
  

  This book is a coming of age classic that has such strong characters, and I absolutely love character driven stories more than the plot. Ponyboy’s Intelligence, Johnny’s sensitivity, Sodapop’s charm, Two-Bit’s Humor, Dally’s Toughness and Darry’s loyalty, all these characters and their strengths makes this story a classic and indeed an all time favorite for me. After all its the person’s character and not their circumstances that define them.

  

• The Giver by Lois Lowry

   

  This “perfect” world makes you appreciate the imperfections in your life and make you feel grateful for the freedom of choice given to us. No matter the outcome we should be able to choose the good or bad, that is what makes us human. You can’t know the difference if you aren’t given a choice.

  

• The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

   

  This book is what poetry is and does to the poet and to the reader. A form of expression, of reading between the lines, and implications said so gracefully.
  This story deals with sexism, faith, teen love and family. It is so beautiful of being a girl, a sister and a daughter and mostly an individual.

  

• The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

  Such an essential read that teaches us the importance of raising your voice and speaking up. Inspired by Black lives matter Movement, this book is beautiful yet a sad story that sheds light upon the truth about police brutality, racism and injustice.
  The writing is so beautiful and makes you wonder about today’s situation in the world. Also the Harry Potter and Tumblr references are so much fun to read.

  

• The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

   

  A book that portrays teen angst, the phase where you try to figure out the worldly things and try to understand people and society. Read this for it’s monologue and the utter craving for saving the innocence in you.

  

• The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

   

  This is my most favorite book of all time. Period!
  I can’t describe my feelings enough, and no recommendation I give can ever give justice to this book.
  I loved the writing, the plot, the characters and the message of just being in the moment.
  JUST READ THIS BOOK ALREADY !
