I have been constantly recommended the Netflix Series – YOU. A quick Google search suggested it was based on a book and here I am following the right chronology of reading the book before the series.:P
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
When aspiring writer Guinevere Beck strides into the bookstore where Joe works, he is instantly smitten.
But there’s more to Joe than Beck realises and much more to Beck than her perfect facade. And the obsessive relationship quickly spirals into a whirlwind of deadly consequences

I have been on an Audio Book marathon this month and naturally chose to go for the Audio Version for this one as well. My first impression a few chapters in and already invested with the characters and plot was – “If you want me to read erotica, this is how you do it. Add in the element of a psychopath stalker and a personality disorder couple and let them have some steamy romance together” 😛
To be honest, this book even though having a lot of adult content doesn’t deter from the plot and manages to give that creepy vibe throughout. At the beginning I found myself rooting for the stalker for his monologues. You have a character that loves books, is so into you and really takes so much effort to get with you. ~Of course it starts out cute and then you realize it isn’t. It comes as a betrayal when things to get out of hand and everything he does, every monologue starts to get creepy to a point you are scared. Scared for Beck, scared for the people around him. It will take you on a ride – this book!

Joe is extremely sarcastic, funny and quite witty. He is the perfect anti-hero. He is a psychopath though. And I’m not supposed to be attracted to him right. Why am I attracted to this character. It is disturbing. I am quite terrified with how much I loved Joe’s monologues. Clearly, the reason why I am a magnet to shitty guys myself. 😛

To be fair, Beck is borderline crazy herself. And I am constantly annoyed by the way she is. Even though she is clearly the victim. Her Best friend is sexually attracted with herself, which gets a bit too uncomfortable for me along with her therapist she cheats with that is a complete douche to be cheating his wife in the first place.
To sum it up, every character in this book is flawed. Every character in this book gets creepy and you’re constantly rooting and hating everybody at the same time. It’s safe to say this book was quite unsettling. And even though this is an incredible read if you like those kind of books. I rather find it a very sadist move to even rate this book more than 3 stars.

Overall, This book is unlike most thriller tropes common in books that focuses more on finding the killer. It is not a spoiler, that we already know who the killer is. However, It does grow on you the blurred lines between right and wrong when it comes to protect

The TV series was recommended to me, too and I was so curious about it! So, obviously, I had to go and get the book because I want to read it before watching the adaptation but.. I haven’t read it yet! 😭 But your review reminded me that I need to get to them ASAP!
