Here I am, with yet another Sci-Fi /Crime / Thriller Korean Drama that is absolutely entertaining and nail biting at times. Tunnel has been intense and suspenseful with all the crime solving that spans for about 30 years and its affects on people.
So similar to another favorite of mine – Signal.
The story of a detective who traverses past and present in the hopes of saving his daughter. He goes from walking along the ridges of rice paddies for clues in 1986, straight into 2016. Wherever he goes, he causes trouble.
In 1986, Park Gwang-ho works as a successful detective in an enthusiastic manner. However, his life changes when he takes the lead in a serial homicide case and when he passes through a tunnel while chasing the “culprit”. He time travels 30 years into the future (2016), where he meets a new partner, Kim Seon-jae, an eccentric elite detective that has a high ability in investigation. When the serial killer continues his “modis operandi” of his murders that happened 30 years ago, the detective duo works together with a Criminal psychologist, Professor Shin Jae-yi to solve the unsolved murders and to catch the murderer.
The world needs to figure out how to time travel
TIME TRAVEL TROPE X Technology
Being a detective from the 80’s, without any technology to assist in investigations. The time traveling detective tries to adapt with using a mobile phone or tracking a vehicle with GPS and so on. If anything, this was absolutely eye opening how much technology has helped catch the bad guys.
But still, he also makes good use of the traditional ways that the newer generation fail to acknowledge. So well, I loved that whole element of technology playing a key role in catching the criminal years later. And the basics that do the job just as much if not better.
WHO DUNNIT ?
The Crimes are gruesome with a serial killer murdering women wearing skirts. Absolutely love how the show portrays the criminal mindset for such crimes too, along with analyzing how petty criminals if not given the right guidance can end up. No crime is small after all.
We had the who dunnit aspect going on for more than half of the show, but it was equally fun to see who was the main villain and his twisted ways of fooling people.
EYE CANDY !
Not technically the typical cute guys that gives you butterflies. Although considering the kind of show this was, he was pretty solid. He had this men at work kind of aura and that mysterious look on his face all the time. Basically, I like men that have emotional baggage and yet don’t let it affect their professional life and are shaped for the better because of it. If you know what I mean. 😛
RATING : 4.0/5.0
Overall, it was engaging and kept getting interesting every episode. The time travel aspect is executed pretty well without making it too confusing. Also, each have their own emotional baggage that gives a lot more depth to each characters. Not to mention, the gruesome crime case and the nail biting investigation that goes on.
Episodes : 16
Genre : Thriller, Fantasy
