Heartbreaking Yet Restores Hope in Humanity ft. Lion | 2016

It was typical of me to watch a movie and then realize it’s actually based on a book. Regardless, I will be reading the book. I am not done crying over this.. neither will I get enough of the hope it gives to humanity.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Sunny Pawar in Lion (2016)

A five-year-old Indian boy is adopted by an Australian couple after getting lost hundreds of kilometers from home. 25 years later, he sets out to find his lost family.

THOUGHTS

THE ULTIMATE NIGHTMARE FOR A PARENT
Loosing your child is the worst nightmare, especially in India where on an average 50000 children go missing every year. Now, if you’re poor while also being unlucky already and don’t have the power to pull the right strings, you probably are never going to see your kid’s face ever.

And, if you know anything about India, you know Railway Stations are the worst place to get lost. To be honest, it is so common to see child beggars in India, you tend to think maybe they are not lost but just poor. I honestly don’t know what I am trying to say here, but just know this whole set up was so intriguing and gave me goosebumps. So then to know this was a true story is even more heartbreaking.

CHILD TRAFFICKING
Very quickly, he crosses paths with some real bad people but knows to trust his instincts. Unfortunately, that’s not the case for most lost children in India. Hence, this made it even more sad than it normally would.
There are scenes that imply children sexually exploited and a lot can be seen on how it affects them which was extremely hard hitting to watch.

THERE IS HOPE
But, we know there is a happy ending. It’s not a spoiler . It’s right there in the synopsis. We know he is adopted at a young age, and is living a much better life in Australia.
It restores hope in humanity, and it begs you to think about those millions of lost children that have their fate twisted by the wrong hands.
It truly makes you understand how important is adoption in today’s world.

Rating: ★★★★★

Overall, This movie is emotional, hard hitting and will make you cry sad and happy tears both.
