If you have been following my blog lately, you might know how I am leaning towards picking up more political stories. So it is no surprise, I chose to watch a Korean Drama that is based around politics as well. 😛
I know this is a Korean remake of the American One. However, I am running behind my K – Drama Goals I set in the beginning of the year. It took me two months but I am finally done with this series and ready to share my thoughts on it.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Park Moo Jin is a former professor of chemistry and now holds the Minister of Environment position. He doesn’t have ambition, personal beliefs or political sense. One day, the cabinet is gathered in the National Assembly for the president’s address. A terror attack takes place, killing many government officials, including the president and ministers. Park Moo Jin is the highest ranking government official left alive. He doesn’t want the position, but he must sit as the acting president for 60 days.
This Drama did not hook me from the very first episode. To be honest, For the first 2 episodes – I kind of watched this during coffee breaks with literary 15 mins attention spans. However, after the third episode I was completely hooked and binged watched the next 7-8 episodes . Then it got a little bit too dragged out. However, It picked up after the 12th episode again and I finished watching the rest in one night alone. So well. I kind of have mixed feelings about this.
I will blame it on the not so drool worthy male characters. 😛 Also, the fact that this was a slow burn for me. Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. The story line is complex and it touched on a lot of political themes like corruption, conspiracy, terror, governance, panic in the citizens and so on.
And maybe just maybe, I must have out done myself with politics and my brain can’t handle it anymore 😛
There are enough bad guys with good intentions in this drama. So, I was constantly in the grey area when it came to liking a character. The main character though seemed pretty sensible and the world would be a much better place if we did have politicians who weren’t lusting for power and had their priorities set right
The ending is pretty open ended. And, I am hoping we get to see more of this series in the future. I guess by the end of this series, I was so invested in the characters and was left wanting more. It’s not exactly a very happy ending but it it does mange to give hope.
Overall, Designated Survivor : 60 Days is thrilling and will keep you going till the end. It talks about morals, personality and the hope in democracy.
