ANIME Anime Movies Bite-sized Delights

Sitara|2020

Ironically, I am not keeping up with my Movies Goal for the year very well this year. Hence, it is Short Films to the rescue 😛
This one being only 15 mins is a Netflix Original and what an important social issue it addresses even without a single dialogue.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Sitara: Let Girls Dream

Pari, a 14-year-old girl, dreams of becoming a pilot while growing up in a society that doesn’t allow her to dream.

THOUGHTS

To be completely honest, this is my first Pakistani Movie and I am so impressed. The story is set in 1970’s Pakistan and starts out with two girls flying paper planes on their terrace while dreaming of being a pilot someday.
Even though not a single word is spoken, you get the discontent across the family when the Dad walks in.

Sitara: Let Girls Dream (2019)

The scene is quickly followed up with Pari marrying a much older guy than her age. A story much common in the Asian community is so well portrayed and leaves you thinking and tad heartbroken. Even though the Dad realizes and changes his approach and the ending seems mildly satisfying, the sentimental message just before the credits start to roll will leave you helpless.

One thing that stood out to me the most is the picture of his marriage where the mother seems rather sad is so similar to the emotion her daughter has in her own wedding pictures. And unless your not living under a rock, you might know is an old tradition continued even today in some parts of the world.

Lastly, each character’s emotion in this movie is so well done which I feel is so hard to get across in an Anime Movie, even harder without any dialogues! Highly Recommend!

Rating: ★★★★

Overall, It is an amazing Anime Movie . Although, I recommend to be watched by Adults with their children as it helps in opening a dialogue about their dreams and address an important social issue of child marriage.
